Near the entrance to the monastery is situated a beautiful little shrine/oratory of St. Pedro Calungsod, the first native saint from the Philippines. The oratory was constructed in the year 2003, by a donor. In this Oratory, many cancer patients claim to have been healed. We celebrate Mass in this Oratory on every first Saturday of the month followed by Novena Prayer. The celebrations begin with the Holy Rosary at 09.am and celebration of the Mass is at 9.30. am.
St. Pedro Calungsod was a teenage native of the Visayas region in the Philippines. He was among the first to serve the Mission organized by Fr. Diego Luis de San Vitores SJ., in the Marianas on 16 June 1668. On 2 April 1672, he was speared and struck to death with a cutlass together with Fr. Diego by two of the native villagers in Tumhon, Guam, for catechizing and baptizing the natives. Their bodies were thrown into the deep ocean, and were never to be found again. Pedro was beatified on March 2000 and was inscribed in the Canon of the Saints on 21 October 2012.
