Our Lady of Manaoag Rosary Center

OurLadyOfManaoagThe miraculous Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag is one of favorite pilgrimage sites in the Philippines, standing on a hilltop in Manaoag, in Pangasinan some 200 kilometres north of Manila in Luzon. Our Lady of Manaoag (the word ‘manaoag’ in the local dialect means to call) is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary, who appeared to a farmer from atop a cloud enveloped tree holding a child in one hand and the holy rosary on the other, in the year 1514 in a town called Manaoag. Her message was clear and simple. She wanted a place where people could come and pray to her. From then on, right where she stood, what once was a sleepy farming village became a much venerated pilgrimage site where as mother she radiates that beautiful expression that says I am your mother. The devotion to Our Lady of Manaoag was propagated in the Visayas particularly in Cebu and Leyte Provinces only from September 1996. More than thirty five solemn enthronements of her image have been done in many places.

St.Benedict’s Monastery in Corte has a pilgrim shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Manaoag, called Rosary Center, which draws thousands of pilgrims every year. Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag is regarded as the patroness of the sick, protectress of the helpless, and benefactress of the needy. The devotion to Our Lady of Manaoag has been instrumental in fostering Catholic piety especially in the northern Philippines, bringing people closer to the Lord. Today in the Central Philippines, Our Lady of Manaoag has taken Corte in Carmen (Cebu) as the place of her predilection. Testimonies of miraculous healing, favours granted, prayers answered are reported by the pilgrims to this centre.

Benedictine Monastery is indebted for the construction of this centre to one of its benefactors, a devotee of Our Lady of Manaoag, who has dedicated this centre as ‘a token of love, immortalising every mystery of the most holy rosary now for tomorrows’ to come for ever’.

The centre is open for prayer from 6 am to 6 pm. The monks join the pilgrims for the Holy Rosary followed by Holy Mass on every second Saturday at 9 am. Those who pray at the Centre receive indulgences according to the special privileges given to it from Rome, under conditions. The feast is solemnly celebrated on 8th September every year with Novena prayers starting from 30th August.
